NN License Plate - Frequently Asked Questions

How do I order the new plate?  

Complete applicant information form with name(s), address, phone number(s), plate and vehicle information. Payment is by check, made payable to Northern Neck License Plate.  The Standard plate with numbers assigned by DMV is an annual fee of $25.00.  A personalized plate with your choice of characters is $35.00 annually. Check the certification signature section and sign and date the form.  

Where do I send my application and check?  

Mail the form and your payment to Northern Neck Land Conservancy, PO Box 125, Lancaster, VA  22503

Why is this plate more expensive?

This is a revenue sharing plate. After the first 1,000 are sold, $15 from each plate will be sent to a special fund to support the Northern Neck Land Conservancy.

Is this fee an annual fee or a one-time fee?

The $25 and $35 fees are annual fees. This is because it is a revenue sharing plate.

Can I have my Northern Neck License Plate personalized or keep my current message?

Yes, you can have personalized plates with the new Northern Neck license plate but the message must not exceed six (6) characters. If you currently are paying the annual fee for a personalized plate, you send $35 with your application and fill in your current personalization that you are using, as long as it is not over six characters. If it is a new personalization, fill in your choices on the application form and submit $35.

Can I include my "disabled" license plate with my Northern Neck license plate?

Yes, you can have both Northern Neck and the "disabled" logo. Mark on your application if you currently have "disabled" designation and want to include this on your new plate. However, if you do not have a disabled designation, you must apply through DMV and go through the process.
 

Do I continue to pay the registration fee for my current plate?

Yes, you must continue to keep your current registration up-to-date until the Northern Neck license plate is delivered.

Do I need to wait until my current license plates are ready to be renewed before applying for the new Northern Neck license plate?

No, we encourage you to send your application in as soon as you decide to purchase the new design to help towards the needed 350 pre-paid applications. When we get enough applications, we then will transfer them to DMV and they will issue you new plates and decals. No matter when your plates are to be renewed, please send us an application.

When will the plates actually be sent to the applicants?

The new plates should be issued in the spring of 2010. As soon as we get the 350 minimum pre-paid applications and the General Assembly passes the legislation in 2009, the DMV will be sent the applications and fees and begin production.

Do I get my money back if the 350 applications are not received?

Yes, you will be refunded your money if we do not collect enough applications.
