NNLC Field Day at Shiloh School
A community-wide Field Day was May 12 at Shiloh School in Northumberland County.

The Field Day, coordinated by the Northern Neck Land Conservancy, invited the public to come to receive practical information for sound environmental management for their properties. Specifically, the afternoon involved nearly twenty exhibits.  Some hands-on activities for participants aimed to teach how to be good stewards of the land and water.

NNLC has gathered facts for a booklet, "Northern Neck Best Management Practices."  The booklet includes information about bayscaping, septic system maintenance, riparian buffers, fertilizer, pesticide and herbicide issues, boating concerns, shoreline stabilization, oyster gardening and water-wise gardening.

The historic one-room school was open.  Visitors were encouraged to walk the trails at the two nearby Natural Area Preserves, Dameron Marsh and Hughlett Point.

The event was sponsored with assistance from Northumberland Preservation Inc., VA Department of Conservation and Recreation, also River Counties Community Foundation, Chesapeake Bay Restoration Fund, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
